The Massachusetts Cultural Council supports
many community based programs by helping to fund artists and
the organizations that make the cultural programs available to the
public. Each town in the Commonwealth has a “local” council to
which someone can apply for a grant. While each town has its own
guidelines, they all follow the state rules, so there is some
consistency.
Please note, grants from LCCs are
reimbursement based. Competition is great and
funding is limited; but it's definitely worth it to apply.
In 2010, thanks to a grant form the Chelsea
Cultural Council supported by Mass LCC, Anne Steinman is offering a Watercolor
and Drawing Class at the Chelsea Senior Center. This
program is supported in part from a grant from the Chelsea Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the
Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
These grants are easy to apply for, but it
helps to apply early to avoid the mid-October rush, when many
artists and organizations are scurrying to meet this crucial
deadline. If you would like to have Anne do a workshop, you,
as an organization representative, may apply (This may increase your chances of being
awarded since you are local.), or Anne may apply as an individual
artist. If you decide to apply yourself to help fund one or more
of Anne’s workshops, contact Anne and she'll be glad to walk you
through the application process. Since competition is steep for
limited funds and you would not want your application to be rejected
on a technicality, it is imperative for applicants to learn and
adhere to the
MCC
and LCC application requirements.
